Career Development
Little Zebra actively encourages our Educators to continue their professional learning through study, and provides opportunity for Educators to perform the duties of a higher classified position as a mechanism for career development. When an employment opportunity becomes available, we will promote the position in-house to provide suitable candidates the opportunity to apply for the position.
Quality Teams
Little Zebra supports a team approach to providing quality childcare for young children. For Educators to work together as a team, effective communication must exist between Educators, with a supportive environment provided for open and honest communication. The staff at Little Zebra work together to ensure quality outcomes for all children. We share skills and knowledge with other Educators, especially in Educator team meetings. Our Educators welcome new members to the team and are involved in the orientation of new Educators through mentoring. We value the different backgrounds, attitudes, and beliefs of other Educators and respect the rights, interests and well-being of all children and young people.
Quality Equipment and Resources
At Little Zebra we understand the importance of inspiring young minds and having a variety of quality resources for our Educators to have access to. We ensure our resources and equipment meet the Australian Safety Standards. Where possible we prefer to purchase natural resources that are environmentally friendly. We encourage the use of recycled materials, as well as using equipment for multiples purposes through different learning areas.
Employee Bonus System
Little Zebra employees are required to participate in the performance review process appropriate to their employment classification. Every 6 months the Centre Director will meet with each employee to discuss individual performance goals and work plans, and individual professional development plans. Performance reviews will be used as an opportunity to reflect on practice and performance, identify strengths and areas for development and how these will be addressed. The effort, contribution, and achievement of Educators will be acknowledged and celebrated. Educator position descriptions, as well as performance appraisal criteria, will be used to assess performance. Bonuses are paid to Educators after each performance review and directly relate to performance.
Employee Recognition
Little Zebra understands the importance of recognising their Educators. We believe that recognition lets employees know that their work is valued and appreciated and gives employees a sense of ownership and belonging in their place of work. As well as the bonus system, we recognise Educators each month at our team meeting, and we recognise an Employee of the Year at our annual end of year function. We also acknowledge birthdays and other special days for our team.
Management Commitment to Training and Development
Little Zebra encourages and supports our Educators in their professional and career development, and we see this as an integral part of their employment with Little Zebra. We acknowledge that professional development is integral to employee job satisfaction, workplace productivity, reward, and recognition, and we believe it is critical to the continuous improvement of the Centre’s programs and services.
Vision and Direction, Both Individually and Collectively
Little Zebra is committed to providing a supportive and rewarding environment for employees and recognises that the quality, responsiveness, and professionalism of our workforce is inextricably linked to the Centre’s provision of high quality care. The Centre Director together with the employee will identify professional development goals to enhance and build the skills, knowledge, experience, and performance of the employee to enable them to contribute more effectively and creatively to Little Zebra’s operations.
