Learning through play,  relationships and curiosity

Children learn by doing, wondering, exploring, connecting and trying things for themselves.

At Little Zebra, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, with educators building on children’s interests, ideas and everyday discoveries to create meaningful learning experiences.

— PLAY-BASED LEARNING

Children learn best when they’re curious and involved.

Play gives children opportunities to test ideas, solve problems, communicate, imagine, take risks and make sense of the world around them.

Our educators observe what children are interested in and use those ideas as a starting point for deeper learning — introducing new materials, questions, experiences and opportunities to explore.

Learning through play

Play is where children practise skills, build confidence, develop relationships and discover what they can do.

Led by children’s interests

If something captures a child’s imagination, we build on it. An interest in trucks might become conversations about movement, construction, counting, drawing, storytelling or teamwork.

Learning together

Children learn alongside educators and one another – sharing ideas, solving problems, negotiating, communicating and building confidence through collaboration.

— THE FRAMEWORK

Belonging,
Being & Becoming

Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) guides our approach to learning and helps educators plan experiences that support each child’s development, identity and wellbeing.

01

Belonging

Knowing where and with whom you belong — to family, community and place.

02

Being

The right to simply be a child: to play, to wonder, to rest, to feel.

03

Becoming

Growing the skills, identity and confidence to step into what comes next.

Educators observe and document children’s learning over time, using the EYLF to help recognise progress, emerging interests and opportunities for further learning.

— ENVIRONMENTS

Environments that foster curiosity

Children learn from the spaces around them, so our environments are designed to invite exploration, movement, creativity and connection.

Across our indoor and outdoor spaces, children can choose from a broad range of materials, experiences and opportunities that reflect their interests, developmental stages and the different ways they like to learn.

Outdoor environments provide room for active play, investigation, collaboration and imagination, while indoor spaces offer places to create, build, read, experiment, talk, rest and focus.

— INDOOR LEARNING

Spaces that grow with children

Our indoor environments are arranged to support the children using them, reflecting their age, development, current interests and the experiences educators are exploring with the group.

Children have access to a broad range of materials and experiences that encourage creativity, problem-solving, communication, imaginative play and independent exploration.

Spaces change over time as children’s interests evolve, helping keep the environment familiar while still giving them new things to discover.

— FAMILIES & CONNECTION

Families are part of the journey

Early learning works best when families and educators know one another, communicate openly and share what matters.

At Little Zebra, communication isn’t just about sending updates. It’s about building genuine relationships with families so we can understand each child more fully and support them together.

Everyday communication

Daily updates through Storypark and Xap, along with face-to-face conversations at drop-off and pick-up.

Learning shared with families

Photos, learning stories and reflections help families see what children are exploring, enjoying and working towards.

Conversations when they matter

Sometimes a quick update is enough. Other times, a phone call or longer conversation is needed. We make space for both.

Part of the service community

Families are welcomed into centre events, celebrations and shared experiences — helping children see a strong connection between home, their educators and their wider community.

— CHILD SAFETY

Safety is the floor, not the ceiling.

We are committed to being a Child Safe Organisation. Every child has the right to feel safe, respected and valued – and every adult here shares the responsibility for making that real.

Speak up, always

If anything ever worries you about your child’s wellbeing, we want to hear it. Our directors are visible, contactable and take every concern seriously.

— COME AND MEET US

See how Little Zebra feels.

Choosing an early learning service is personal. A website can tell you a lot, but there’s nothing quite like walking through the doors yourself.

Come and meet our educators, explore the rooms and outdoor spaces, ask the questions that matter to you and get a feel for whether Little Zebra is the right fit for your family.
